The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, has said the policeman who killed a soldier in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, is not under the state Police Command.

Naija News earlier reported that some police officers were accused of stabbing a soldier to death in Ogijo area of Ikorodu which caused palpable tension in the area.

The incident which happened on Wednesday evening led to a series of shootings in the area.

It was gathered that the policemen took cover at Ogijo Police Station when they discovered the victim was a military officer.

A source in the area who spoke on the incident said he narrowly escaped death as people started shooting in the area.

Reacting, Oyeyemi, while speaking with PUNCH, said the incident happened in Odogunyan, which falls under Lagos State, not Ogun.

He added that it was a mobile policeman who killed the soldier, stating that Ogun had no mobile base in Ogijo area.

He said: “That is a misconception, a mobile man serving in Lagos was the one that killed the soldier. I don’t know why the soldiers will go and start burning Ogijo Police Station when the issue happened in Odogunyan, which is in Lagos.

“We don’t have any mobile base in Ogijo, so how can the mobile policeman be from Ogijo?”
