The Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has suspended indefinitely all his campaign rallies a few days before the forthcoming elections.

Naija News learnt that his action was necessitated by the violent protest that erupt in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Wednesday, over residents’ frustration with the naira swap policy.

The governor made the declaration in a special broadcast to the people of the state at 5 pm in Ilorin, the capital of the state.

According to him, he understands and shares their pain because they are all in it together, however, the can only appeal to the people of Kwara State to be calm over the continuous scarcity of the naira as a result of the recent CBN’s currency redesign.

Abdulrazaq urged the citizens to remain calm and peaceful, and not give in to any frustrations or engage in any form of violence.

The governor also testified to the inconvenience the development has brought on the populace saying “we are in it together.”

He stated that “For clarity, the Supreme Court has granted an injunction that allows the old and the new notes to coexist. This injunction is still valid until the highest court rules otherwise.

“I, therefore, want all of you to be calm, law-abiding, and peaceful. Let us not attack one another or destroy one another’s properties.

“We are in this together, and I assure you that this will be over in the shortest possible time. I really appreciate your patience.

“In solidarity with the mood of the public, I’m putting my public rallies on hold until further notice.”

It was also gathered that five suspects were arrested by police in the state in connection with the unrest that erupted across the state capital.
