The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has asserted that President Muhammadu Buhari wants to cripple the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) before vacating office in a few months.

The APC chieftain stated this in reaction to the nationwide broadcast by the Nigerian leader following a Supreme Court order on the Naira swap policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Naija News reports that President Buhari on Thursday, in a nationwide broadcast, maintained that the new monetary policy by the apex bank had minimized the influence of money in politics.

He further stated that the policy was put in place to lay a strong foundation for free and fair elections.

Despite anticipation that the Nigerian leader will obey the Supreme Court order which says the old and new Naira notes should be acceptable concurrently, Buhari declared today that only N200 notes would be valid till April 10 while the old N500 and N1,000 banknotes are no longer legal tender in the country.

Buhari, however, directed the apex bank to release old N200 notes into circulation as legal tender for the next 60 days.

Buhari Turned Against System That Brought Him To Office

Reacting, Ganduje said the Nigerian leader was hellbent on making the party that brought him to power lose the election, alleging that the policy was targeted at the APC.

“President Buhari should remember that several times he tried to contest Presidency, but he couldn’t make it until there was an alliance, but now after enjoying everything, he turned back against the same democratic system that saw him to office.

“The President should remember that this is a democratic setting that allows popular voices and leaders to listen to advice and adhere strictly to that advice.

“I wonder why the President is hellbent in making the same Party that helped him to win elections lose out, what did we do to him that he is this ignorant on several advice forwarded to him,” Daily Post quoted the Kano State Governor saying in an audio reportedly available to them.

He added: “This same Buhari he contested again and again but he couldn’t win not until there was an alliance, now he wins and win again for the second term, but now that he is leaving, he wants to cripple the same Party that brought him to power why?

“This Currency Swap Policy, why didn’t the President bring it seven and a half years ago or after elections, but now one must be compelled to think that there is an ulterior motive in the whole thing.”

Ganduje, who somehow exonerated the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, said, “The CBN Governor don’t know anything; you now set the Nation Apex Bank on fire with this policy”.

The APC chieftain further expressed concern that even World Bank, IMF and other financial institutions have advised the President to think twice about the negative policy but he turned deaf ears.
