Austin Okocha, a former midfielder for the Super Eagles, is certain that Spartak Moscow’s Victor Moses will return from his prolonged fitness issues stronger and lead the Russian powerhouse to the league championship.

At the beginning of the 2022–23 season, Victor Moses was in excellent form with Spartak, scoring twice and settling into his new position with the Russian team under new manager Guille Abascal.

On Match Day Four of the Russian Premier League in August 2022, during Spartak Moscow’s 2-0 victory against Ural, the 32-year-old former Nigerian international sustained a fatal injury.

Without making any contact with the opposition, the former Chelsea player slumped to the ground and needed assistance to leave the pitch.

The former Chelsea player may, ironically, face the Ural team he was injured against on March 4 now that he is back in the gym.

Before the Nigerian’s injury, Spartak was leading the league, but they are now six points behind Zenit St. Petersburg.

Okocha is nevertheless confident that his countryman will support Spartak in their victory.

“Victor (Moses) is a great football player who played at a high level at Chelsea and is now showing his worth at Spartak,” Okocha told Sport24 in an interview.

“It is a pity that he has an injury, but I want to wish him only the very best.

“I am sure that when he recovers from the injury and returns to the squad, he will help Spartak become the champions.”
