2023: 13,000 Security Personnel Needed In Enugu – INEC

A total number of 13,000 security personnel would be needed in Enugu State for the conduct of the forthcoming general election.

Naija News reports that the development was disclosed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu.

According to him, work is ongoing by the Inter-agency Consultation Committee on Election Security to mobilise and deploy the required number of security personnel to ensure hitch-free elections in the state.

It was learnt that Chukwu, on Monday in Enugu, disclosed that the required 13,000
security personnel would be deployed to the 4,145 polling units, 260 Registration Area Centres and collation centres across the 17 council areas of the state.

The Enugu State REC disclosed that the commission in the state has started the deployment of non-sensitive materials ahead of the elections.

He also said security have been beefed up at all local government areas offices of the commission because of the distribution of the materials.

Chukwu advanced that “We are working ahead of the commission’s schedule and ensuring practical, proactive implementation of all timelines of INEC in the state.

“We have continued to have constant meetings and engagement with stakeholders to ensure secured, free, fair and credible elections in Enugu State.

“We are ready to ensure that 2023 elections will be the best in the state especially with the use of technology.”
