Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, has expressed displeasure at how Chrisland Schools continued their academic and sports activities amidst the death of a 12-year-old student, Whitney Adeniran.

Naija News earlier reported that Michael Adeniran, the father of the deceased took to social media on Saturday night, to call on the Lagos State Government and Police to probe the incident resulting in the death of his daughter.

According to him, his daughter had no health condition or sickness as of the time the school bus picked her up for the sporting event.

This is not the first time the school has been involved in controversial issues regarding the well-being of students and many people have demanded that justice be served on the matter.

Chrisland Schools Reacts

In a statement on Sunday, Chrisland Schools expressed sadness over the incident, describing the death as painful and the institution is heartbroken and depressed.

The school refuted the claims that Whitney participated in sports activities during the inter-house sports, stressing she did not give any reason for her refusal.

They recalled that Whitney complained of health issues in January and the parents were contacted before her father came to the school to take her home.

The school said the deceased slumped in public view and not under any hidden circumstances and was rushed to the nearest medical facility for first aid.

Chrisland, however, appealed to the Adeniran family to establish a scientific verification of the underlying cause of their daughter’s death before her burial.

Amidst the school statement, there is a voice noted making the rounds online that Whitney died of electrocution.

A pupil who witnessed the tragic incident said the deceased stepped on a naked wire from a candy flox machine.

Iyabo Ojo Reacts

In a post shared on Instagram, Iyabo Ojo slammed the school authority saying their level of negligence is appalling and the parents deserve to know what happened to their daughter.

She also fumed at how the mother of the deceased was left unaccompanied in search of the health facility they took the student to.

While calling on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the police to intervene, the actress also urged Chrisland schools to deny or confirm the audio making the rounds online.

She wrote: “@chrislandinsta You need to come out & tell Whitney’s parents the truth about their daughter’s death. The negligence of your school is appalling. There is a WhatsApp audio circulating that she died as a result of electrocution. Can you confirm or deny this?

“Did you not vet the vendors at your event to make sure they came with child-proof equipment? You knew the child was dead before sending her to a ‘health centre’ and sent the mother on a wild goose chase to look for her child without accompanying her. The actual audacity to be irresponsible.

“The fact that you went ahead with the event when one of your students just died reeks of a lack of empathy. @jidesanwoolu @nigerianpoliceforce Kindly look into this urgently.”
