2023: Fresh Bloomberg Poll Puts Peter Obi Ahead Of Tinubu, Atiku

The result of a fresh opinion poll conducted by Premise Data Corp for Bloomberg News has projected Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) as the leading candidate ahead of the February 25 presidential election.

Recall that the US news organization had on September 28, 2022, released a first poll that showed that Obi is ahead of his other counterparts in the race for the 2023 presidential election.

The poll surveyed 3,973 Nigerians from September 5-20, and respondents to the app-based poll were selected from quotas developed by age, gender, and location across the country’s six geopolitical zones.

But in a fresh poll conducted between January 26 and February 4, the news organization said Obi was the preferred candidate ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu; and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.

The poll result released on Friday showed that Obi polled 66 percent, while Tinubu scored 18 percent and Atiku polled 10 percent of the 93 percent of respondents’ votes.

In a statement on Friday, Bloomberg News said: “San Francisco-based Premise polled 2,384 Nigerians from Jan. 26 to Feb. 4 via a smartphone app. Submissions were selected from quotas developed by age, gender, and location across the country’s six geopolitical zones, the company said. Results were then weighted against the original quotas to ensure national representation.

This poll comes days after another poll conducted by Stears, a pan-African data company, put the LP presidential candidate as the favorite to win the February 25 presidential election.

The poll result puts Obi in the lead with 27% of all votes, followed by Tinubu with 15%, and Atiku with 12%. It also showed that Obi is the most universally accepted candidate and that Nigerians vote along religious lines.

The company said from the poll’s data set, Obi is the candidate that achieves at least 25 percent of the vote in the most geopolitical zones (five of six) among voters that declared their candidate preference.

It added that the LP flag bearer leads Tinubu (four out of five), while Atiku only secures 25 percent of the vote in two geopolitical zones.

Naija News reports that the LP candidate has won the majority of the polls but the opposition parties have rejected the outcome of the opinion polls.
