A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Fani-Kayode, had hailed the Supreme Court for ordering that the old naira notes should remain in circulation beyond the February 10 deadline earlier announced.

Naija News earlier reported that the apex court ordered the suspension of the deadline of 10th February for the use of old naira notes and restrained the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from issuing a deadline for the policy.

Giving judgment on Wednesday in the ex-parte motion brought by three APC Governors, a seven-member panel of the apex court led by Justice John Okoro ruled that Nigerians can now continue to use the old naira notes together with the new until the legality of the policy is finally determined.

Reacting in a series of tweets via his Twitter handle on Wednesday, Fani-Kayode commended the apex court for displaying remarkable insight and sensitivity in the matter and courageously risen to the occasion.

The former Minister of Aviation said the Supreme Court has also proved that the courts really are the last hope of the common man when faced with the tyranny of cruel policies and insane officials.

Fani-Kayode also commended Governors Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara, and Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna states for saving Nigerians from the most complex and greatest evil that has ever been hatched against democracy & foisted on the people by a tiny group of evil technocrats & saboteurs working for a greater power.

He said the government now has a chance to change the narrative and take away the immense suffering that has been imposed on Nigerians over the last few days.

He wrote: “The Supreme Court has restrained the FG & CBN & suspended the deadline of 10th February for the use of old naira notes. Nigerians can now continue to use the old naira notes together with the new until the legality of the policy is finally determined by the Supreme Court.

“For this we thank firstly the Supreme Court who have not only displayed remarkable insight and sensitivity in this matter and courageously risen to the occassion but who have also proved that the courts really are the last hope of the common man when faced with the tyranny of abusive & cruel policies & insane officials.

“We must also thank my three dearest friends & brothers, men of courage & conviction all, who took the FG to court. They are, Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Gov. Bello Matawalle of Zamfara & Gov. Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna.

“History and posterity will reward all 3 of you for saving us from the most complex & greatest evil & the darkest conspiracy that has ever been hatched against democracy & foisted on our people by a tiny group of evil technocrats & saboteurs working for a greater power.

“At least now we have a chance to change the narrative & take away the immense suffering that has been imposed on our people over the last few days.

“At least now there is a distinct possibility that this catastrophic scorched earth policy which seeks to inflict pain on our people, destroy our future as a nation and scuttle democracy in our country may be declared totally illegal by the Supreme Court and cancelled.

“Hope springs eternal whilst God remains on the throne! Glory Hallelujah! Thanks be to God!”
