The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso has promised to run a climate-smart economy if elected during the February 2023 election.

The former Kano State Governor added that he would empower and include women and youths in running his administration if elected.

Naija News reports he made the promise on Tuesday at the Presidential Town Hall Meeting on Climate Change and Environmental Concerns at the University of Abuja.

Speaking at the programme with the theme “2023 General Elections and the Quest for a Greener Nigeria,” Kwankwaso who was represented by the NNPP National Chairman, Prof. Rufai Alkali said building resilient infrastructures would be a major focus for his administration if elected.

“In our blueprint, we highlighted our vision for a sustainable, prosperous, equitable, and climate-resilient Nigeria. Our goal is to provide a pro-people and pro-nature framework for collective action and enhanced cooperation to address climate change issues.

“We will also improve livelihoods and well-being, promote adaptation capacity, and achieve low-emission, and sustainable economic growth,” Kwankwaso said.

The programme also had in attendance the African Action Congress (ACC) Presidential Candidate, Mr Omoyele Sowore, the Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mr Adebayo Adeoye, the flagbearer of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Dumebi Kachikwu, who all highlighted how they would manage the economy of Nigeria in relation to climate change if elected as the next president of the country.
