ISWAP Sacks Police Station In Borno, Kills policeman

No fewer than eight residents of Makilwe, a community in the Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, were reportedly abducted when Boko Haram terrorists attacked late Tuesday evening.

A farmer working on his farmland, according to reports made available to reporters was killed in the recent attack.

Naija News learnt that the assailants have since reached out to the family of the abducted persons, demanding millions of Naira as ransom.

“Boko Haram abducted eight farmers and killed one here at Makilwe village, which is three kilometers from Jere LGA headquarters, Khaddamari. The incident took place on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, around 4pm,” SaharaReporters quoted a source who pleaded anonymity.

According to him, the abduction took place 2 kilometres from Zabarmari, the infamous place where 50 farmers were slaughtered by Boko Haram two years ago.

The source alleged there is a military battalion of 300 soldiers in the village of Zabarmari, but that the terrorists sneaked into Makilwe yesterday riding on ten brand new bikes.

Naija News reports that Boko Haram terrorists have increasingly targeted farmers, herders and loggers in the Northern region, accusing them of spying and passing information to the Nigerian military.

They have also been raiding herding communities, stealing cattle, a valuable commodity in the region to fund their operations.

My Administration Has Recovered All Territories From Boko Haram – Buhari

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari boasted on Tuesday that his administration has recovered all grounds previously under the control of Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Naija News reports that the Nigerian leader stated this yesterday when he was given the African Award for Strengthening the Peace by the President of the Abu Dhabi Peace Forum, Shaykh Abdullah Bin Bayyah, in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The President said despite spending over $1bn to reclaim Boko Haram-held territories in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States since 2015, Nigeria’s security and that of the Lake Chad Basin remains unstable.

President Buhari added that the instability in the Lake Chad region is due to lingering conflicts in Libya, the Central African Republic and Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

This is according to a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina, titled ‘President Buhari receives award for peace in Africa, lists conditions for future harmony.’

He said: “Although we are winning the war, however, as a country and sub-region, we continue to be negatively impacted by events in Libya, the Central Africa Republic, The Sahel and the war in Ukraine.

“Boko Haram is false. You say Western education is ungodly. It’s fraudulent. Whoever is financing them just wants to split the country.

“All the grounds they seized before we came have been recovered, and the rebuilding process is going on well.”
