Atiku Rejects Presidential Tribunal Verdict, Reveals Next Move

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dele Alake, has said the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, deserves to be be arrested for allegedly stealing public funds through ‘Special Purpose Vehicles.’

Alake, Special Adviser on Media, Communications and Public Affairs to the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said this at a world press conference organized by the joint media directorates of the PCC in Abuja on Monday.

Recall that Atiku’s former media aide, Michael Achimugu, had claimed that he was privy to how the former Vice President laundered public money through Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV).

A SPV is a type of business arrangement that allows companies to operate a subsidiary with independence from the parent company to mitigate financial risk.

Addressing journalists, Alake said Atiku deserves to be arrested following evidence that he abused his office as vice president from 1999 to 2007 by allegedly siphoning and looting public funds through the creation of SPVs.

The APC chieftain also slammed a section of the media for their alleged silence over the allegation against the PDP flag bearer, adding that the allegations against Atiku should be thoroughly investigated by anti-graft agencies.

Present at the conference were Alake, Chief Spokesperson of the APC PCC, Festus Keyamo; Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga; Director of Special Media Projects/New Media, Femi Fani-Kayode and Director of Strategic Communications, Idris Mohammed.
