Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to a tragic accident involving supporters of his party in Plateau State during the weekend.

Naija News reported earlier that many supporters of the PDP were feared dead after a truck conveying them crashed in the Panyam area of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday, January 15, 2023.

A spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Plateau, Peter Longsan, confirmed the incident noting that the number of casualties is yet to be ascertained.

Many people, according to him, were rushed to various hospitals by both officials of the FRSC and volunteers.

Reacting to the incident, Atiku prayed to God to comfort the bereaved families.

The PDP presidential candidate, via his Twitter handle, described the incident as a tragedy and sympathized with the affected families.

Atiku’s tweet read: “I am numbed by the tragedy in which scores of lives were lost and injured in a road accident at the end of the Plateau Central PDP Campaign flag-off yesterday in Pankshin LGA. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims.

“On behalf of my family and team, I express my deepest condolences to the affected families and the @OfficialPDPNig in Plateau State. May they be comforted, and may the souls of the deceased rest in peace.”
