Nigerian musician, Olawale Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo, has tendered an apology to Nigerians from the South-East region over his anti-Igbo remarks.

Naija News recalls that Brymo had in a series of tweets made some tribally motivated posts against Igbos.

One of his tweets said, “F**k The Ndi Igbo!! To Hell With It!!”.

This was greeted with heavy backlash from netizens. A petition was subsequently launched on Change.org for his AFRIMMA nomination to be revoked with immediate effect.

However, it seems that the artist has had a change of heart as he apologized for his past behaviour on his Instagram live session.

According to the ‘Ara’ Crooner, the fracas began after he disapproved of award-winning author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s decision to turn down a national honour and accept a traditional Igbo chieftaincy title from her hometown.

He stated that this was a wrong step considering that the region was clamouring for the presidency.

Brymo explained that someone had asked him to apologize to the people of the southeast, to which he responded, F**k The Ndi Igbo…

He insisted that the statement was taken out of context as he only used it to refer to those who were championing the movement for his downfall and not the entire tribe itself.

He said: “I didn’t insult the tribe (Igbos), I will not do that. I apologize to anyone who is saddened by such a tweet. I was trying to weigh in on very important matters.”
