Famous football expert, Guillem Balague has claimed that Saudi Arabia club, Al Hilal did not approach Lionel Messi for a transfer deal contrary to viral reports.

Earlier this week, reports went viral that Al Hilal was set to make Lionel Messi the highest-paid footballer in the history of football weeks after his career-rival, Cristiano Ronaldo joined a Saudi club, Al-Nassr for a world record deal.

While Ronaldo earns £177 million per year at Al-Nassr, reports claimed that Al Hilal has offered to pay Messi a whopping 245 million per year if he agrees to move to the Middle East this summer.

Note that Messi’s contract with PSG will expire on June 30, 2023, and the French club has not been able to reach a contract extension agreement with the 35-year-old Argentine football star. Hence, the rumours that he might join the Saudi club this summer received the expected attention.

Al Hilal Didn't Make An Offer To Lionel Messi

Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague.

In contrast to the report, Guillem Balague said the reigning world champion who has played 54 times and scored 24 Ligue 1 goals since he joined PSG in 2021, is not planning to move to Saudi Arabia.

“There hasn’t been an offer [from Al Hilal],” Balague said on Friday.

“PSG and Messi are organizing a meeting in the next few weeks to finalize the deal that will keep him in Paris.

“Right now, his motivation is to stay in Europe.

“He is the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or, he is still in the Champions League, and he has big targets after winning the World Cup.

“Not only does it make no sense to approach him with that offer, but it also hasn’t existed.”
