Leaked socio media messages from former directors of FC Barcelona reportedly described Lionel Messi as a money grabber and a “hormonal dwarf”.

Also, the leaked social media messages referred to Lionel Messi who spent the best part of his football career at Barcelona, as a “sewer rat”.

The insults directed at Messi were made on the day that the Nou Camp contract details were revealed by a Spanish publication, El Mundo. They were sent in a group chat that also included former president Joan Bartomeu.

Board members and top officials Oscar Grau, Jordi Moix, Oriol Tomas, David Bellver, Pancho Schroder, and Javier Sobrino are said to have also been a part of the group.

El Periodico reported that Roman Gomez Ponti, the club’s head of legal services during Bartomeu’s tenure, sent messages referring to Messi as a “hormonal midget” and “sewer rats.”

When Bartomeu resigned from the Catalan giants in late 2020, everyone quit their executive positions. During that period, Bartomeu received a telegram from Gomez Ponti regarding Messi that featured several serious but unsubstantiated accusations.

An alleged message from Ponti reads: “Barto you can’t be such a good person with this sewer rat. The club has given him everything and he has dedicated himself to marking a dictatorship of signings, transfers, renewals, sponsorships just for him, etc.”

Ponti went on to criticize the choice to renew the contracts of Messi’s pal Luis Suarez, full-back Jordi Alba, and Ansu Fati, as well as the renewal fee to Ansu Fati, which went to his agency and Messi’s brother Rodrigo.

“Above all the accumulating blackmail and rudeness that the club and those of us who work [for it] have endured from this hormonal dwarf who owes Barca his life… ah! But when things go bad [Covid-19], you get the fabled WhatsApp [message] that says, “President, cut other people’s pay, but don’t touch Luis [Suarez] and me”, an alleged message from Ponti read.

Afterward, Bartomeu reportedly sent out a message which read: “Many times we have listened to Leo, not always, but many times and this contract without a pandemic was acceptable.”

Former vice president Oriol Tomas later theorized that Laporta, who at the time was up for reelection, was responsible for the initial disclosure of Messi’s contract terms to El Mundo.

Naija News recalls that Lionel Messi left Barca for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021, and Laporta claimed that the previous board was to blame for it. He lamented the “calamitous and disastrous situation” he inherited, which led to the club’s dire financial situation.
