Nigerian comedian cum actor, Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth, has come under heavy criticism for kicking off his comedy tour during the election season.

Naija News understands that Nigeria will be holding her general elections to elect the President and Vice President and major political seats on the 25th of Feburuay.

Despite the fact that Nigerians are preparing for the polls which is set to hold next month, the veteran comedian released his tour details around Europe and United Kindgom with theme ‘unprovoked’ set to run from the 12th to the 26th of Feburuay.

Reacting to the post shared online, fans of the comedian lashed at him for hosting a UK tour during Nigeria’s critical moment.

INEC Did Not Check With Me

Responding to the backlashes, Basketmouth disclosed that he has been holding his show every Feburuay for 12 years and won’t change it because of the general election.

He said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not check with him and it was only fair he carried on with his show regardless.

He wrote: ”I have been hosting my UK tour every February for the past 12 years. Interestingly, there have been times when the elections coincided with my shows. Unfortunately, INEC has never deemed it fit to check with me before fixing the date for the elections. Since i Picked February to host my tour first, i think its only fair for me to ahead with the dates. Thank you.”
