The spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Festus Keyamo, has welcomed the idea of an alliance with smaller parties to boost the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, in the forthcoming poll.

Naija News earlier reported that the APC PCC is set to form an alliance with the likes of Accord Party and Social Democratic Party (SDP) in a move to boost Tinubu’s chances in the February 28 presidential election and assist the party in getting the highest number of votes across the nation.

Speaking with The PUNCH on Tuesday, a member of the APC PCC, Senator Adesoji Akanbi said that the council believes that the alliance with other parties would solve the inadequacies in the party’s presidential campaign expressed by some members.

Akanbi said the ruling party was already looking to have meetings with the smaller parties to adopt Tinubu after a stall in discussions with the five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), popularly known as the G5.

The APC chieftain revealed that negotiations were already ongoing in Oyo State with Accord, SDP, and other smaller political parties, urging party leaders in other states to adopt the strategy.

Reacting in an interview with The Punch, Keyamo described the move as an extremely welcome development, adding that the ruling party needs more support and people to win the 2023 elections.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment said the APC campaign council is ready to work with many political parties and candidates that have seen the light and are ready to team up with Tinubu.

He said, “It’s a welcome development. In politics,  you need as many people as you can get. As many political parties and candidates that have seen the light and are ready to team up with Asiwaju, we welcome them on board. It is an extremely welcome development.”
