The Catalan Supreme Court announced on Tuesday that the former defender for both Barcelona and Brazil, Dani Alves is being looked into on suspicion of sexually assaulting a lady in a nightclub in Spain.

Dani Alves was accused by a lady of touching her inappropriately while she was wearing underpants in a nightclub in late December 2022.

According to a statement from the Barcelona court, sexual assault procedures had been initiated “as a result of the accusation made by a woman regarding events that allegedly took place in a nightclub in Barcelona last month.”

A spokesman for the court confirmed to Reuters that Alves was the target of the lawsuit even though the statement didn’t mention any name.

The spokesman confirmed that even though there is no new development, the investigation is still ongoing.

On the other hand, the spokesperson of Dani Alves said that the player who is presently playing for the UNAM Pumas in Mexico “vehemently denies” the charges.

However, last week, Dani Alves confirmed in an interview with Antena 3 that he was at the nightclub but denied the sexual assault allegation.

He said: “I was dancing and having a good time without invading anyone’s space. I don’t know who this lady is…How could I do that to a woman? No.”

When Alves led Brazil against Cameroon in Qatar World Cup earlier in December, he made history by being the country’s oldest player ever to play in a World Cup game.

By including club and international competitions, Alves has won 43 career trophies, which is the most in history for a single player.
