David Datro Fofana Signs For Chelsea

Ivory Coast’s David Datro Fofana has joined Chelsea from Molde, the reigning Norwegian champions, for a rumored £8–10 million.

The 20-year-old David Datro Fofana, who made 65 appearances for Molde and scored 24 goals, has agreed to a six-year deal through 2029 with an additional one-year option.

He follows the £35 million acquisition of French defender Benoit Badiashile from Monaco as Chelsea’s second acquisition of the January transfer window.

“I’m very happy to sign for the club of my dreams,” said Fofana.

A prolific goal scorer and one of European football’s most promising young talents, the forward came to Molde from the Amadou Diallo Football Academy in the Ivory Coast in 2021.

Fofana recently started for the Ivory Coast senior team after receiving three caps.

A statement from Chelsea read: “The Ivorian’s combination of pace, skill, and strength make him a versatile striker, capable of scoring goals but especially adept at holding up the ball and retaining possession under pressure.”

The 21-year-old midfielder from Argentina Enzo Fernandez, who has a £106 million release clause, is another player the Blues are in talks to get from Benfica.

Following Thursday’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City, Graham Potter’s team sits in 10th place in the Premier League and is dealing with a growing injury list that includes both Raheem Sterling and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Meanwhile, Romeo Beckham, David Beckham’s son, has officially joined Brentford on a season-long loan from Inter Miami.

Following the conclusion of the 2022 MLS season, the 20-year-old, who is the second-oldest son of the former England captain, will train with the west Londoners’ reserve team and play for the club’s B team side.

In 2021, before he joined Inter Miami II, Beckham, a right winger like his father, signed with Fort Lauderdale CF. The Inter Miami team was established by Romeo’s father, David, at the start of the MLS season in 2020.

In a preseason friendly with Barcelona in July of last year, the midfielder played six minutes for Inter Miami’s first squad.
