INEC: How To Report Vote Buying, Election Day Violence
Hoodlums

The operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Kano State reportedly arrested some political thugs in the state on Wednesday, January 4, during the presidential rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News recalls that APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was in the state last Wednesday for his campaign rally at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

Reports emerging from the state Police Command, however, stated that at least 61 suspected political thugs were apprehended during and after the APC rally.

In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, the force said the suspects were found with live threatening weapons and items against the law.

The PPRO said the arrest followed a directive of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali-Baba, who earlier declared war on political thugs to ensure a peaceful election process in the coming months.

He said: “The suspects were arrested on Jan. 4, during political campaign clearance operations conducted during a political activity at Sani Abacha Stadium Kano.”

He said items recovered from the suspects include 33 knives, eight cutlasses, four scissors, a parcel and 117 wraps of suspected Indian hemp.

Other items include three bottles of Suck and Die, 500 Exol Tablets and a bunch of charms.

Tambuwal, Deputy, PDP Chieftains Escape As Thugs Attack Their Convoy In Sokoto

Meanwhile, there was pandemonium in Sokoto State last Sunday following the attack on the convoy of Governor Aminu Tambuwal in Wamakko Local Government Area of the state.

Naija News learned that Tambuwal’s convoy was attacked by hoodlums shortly after he led the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally at Silame and Wamakko local councils.

It was gathered that the governor’s convoy was coming back from the third leg of the PDP statewide electioneering campaign when the hoodlums threw stones at the moving vehicles.

The attackers hit the front windscreen of the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity official SUV and damaged the rear screen of the following official SUV of the Permanent Secretary (Protocol) to the Governor.

The stone barely missed the Governor’s Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Mallam Abu Shekara, but fragments of glass from the shattered door screen sprayed his face.

Tambuwal; his deputy, Manir Muhammad Dan Iya; the PDP state governorship candidate, Saidu Umar; the deputy governorship candidate, Sagiru Bafarawa; and the visiting Kebbi State PDP governorship candidate, General Aminu Bande (retd); and other PDP bigwigs in the state who were in the convoy, were not hurt.

In a chat with The Punch, one of Tambuwal’s aides, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack but said the governor only held brief meetings with leaders of his party.

Wamakko is the hometown of the former governor of the state and the leader of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, Aliyu Wamakko.
