Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui will have to stay away from football for at least 6 weeks.

Bayern Munich announced on Friday, January 6, 2023, that Noussair Mazraoui was diagnosed with cardiac tissue inflammation after the last World Cup.

According to a statement from the German Bundesliga, the Moroccan defender will take a break from football to treat the inflammation which was caused by Covid-19.

The full-back, who played his last international match for Morocco in the 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinal match against France in December, reportedly contracted the illness while competing in the tournament in Qatar, according to Bayern Munich.

Bayern has acknowledged that Covid kept the 25-year-old from playing against Portugal in the quarterfinal.

Mazraoui’s pericardium, a fibrous sac of tissue that surrounds the heart, was shown to be inflamed by further tests performed by a team of physicians.

“Noussair Mazraoui is out initially after a Covid infection. A follow-up examination in Munich after the World Cup tournament revealed a mild inflammation of the pericardium, which the defender will now cure,” Bayern Munich tweeted.

According to the German daily Bild, Mazraoui has been ordered to take a thorough break and will thus be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
