'You Are Not An Engineer' - Presidency Replies Obasanjo Over Comment On Nigeria's Refineries

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu on Thursday accused former President Olusegun Obasanjo of punishing him during his time as the Lagos State Governor.

He added that it was not a personal punishment but an action taken against Lagos State because he was in the opposition party.

Tinubu spoke with reference to the Enron power project and accused the Obasanjo administration of frustrating his efforts of solving the challenges of electricity supply when he was the Lagos State Governor.

According to him, the Obasanjo administration went ahead to divert and embezzle the huge sum of money meant to address the challenges of the electricity crisis in the country.

Naija News reports he spoke during the APC presidential campaign rally in Benin, Edo State.

He said: “I brought Enron to solve electricity problem and help Lagos economy but Obasanjo and PDP frustrated it. They punished me and Lagos people and even began deducting our money. I created Local Governments in Lagos to accelerate development and create employment for our people but Obasanjo siezed our allocation and punished us for that. That was wickedness and such a man said he endorsed a man for you to vote as President. Can you follow such a man? Can Obasanjo recommend a leader for anyone in Nigeria? A man who does not know the way cannot show the way.”

“They punished me as Lagos State governor, not personal punish (sic) but the entire Lagos State was punished.”

It Is Poison

Speaking on the recent endorsement of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi by Obasanjo in his new year message, Tinubu described the endorsement as “poison.”

In his view, Obasanjo is not fit to recommendd anyone as the leader of Nigeria.

He added that the former president was on a vendetta mission and seeking someone he can manipulate.

Atiku Unfit To Be President

He also said there is no truth in the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar that he made money from car business during his time as a custom officer.

He said: “Atiku was a custom officer who said he made money selling cars, that is smugling. He didn’t even know that a civil servant can not do any other business apart from agriculture. That is enough to disqualify him and he is not fit to be President.”
