A group, the Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) has commended former President Olusegun Obasanjo for the endorsement of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

In a statement on Monday in Abuja by its Chairman, Emmanuel Onwubiko, the group described those against Obasanjo’s endorsement of the former Governor of Anambra State as anarchists.

The group argued that any politician or presidential candidate against Obi’s endorsement does not mean well for the country and does not want its progress.

HURIWA added that genuine democrats who are guided by tenets of fundamental freedoms enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will be happy that Obasanjo endorsed Obi.

Recall that Obasanjo, in his New Year message titled “My Appeal to all Nigerians, particularly young Nigerians”, endorsed Obi to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The former Nigerian leader said the LP flagbearer possessed the attributes and attitudes necessary to successfully direct the affairs of Nigeria at a time like this.

Obasanjo said Obi possesses a track record of ability and performance; a vision that is authentic, honest, and realistic; character and attributes of a gentleman.

The former President also took a swipe at the Muhammadu Buhari government, saying that it has left many Nigerians sad and many have had horrible experiences since its assumption of power in 2015.

He asserted that Nigeria has become hell on earth for most Nigerians in the last seven years of the Buhari government.
