Melaye To Wike: You Should Honour Your Promise To Support Atiku

Dino Melaye Throw Shades At Wike, PDP G5 Days After Atiku's Presidential Defeat

The Director of Public Affairs of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Management Committee, Dino Melaye, has urged Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to honour his promise to support the winner of the party’s presidential primary.

Recall that Wike, who was also in the running to clinch the party’s presidential ticket, had promised to work with whoever emerged winner of the election held on May 28, 2022, in Abuja.

After the election, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar won the presidential primary election with 371 votes to beat his closest challenger, Wike who polled 237 votes.

Hours later, Atiku visited the Rivers governor at his Abuja residence to offer a hand of fellowship and to solicit his support for the 2023 presidential election.

The governor, in a post on his verified Facebook page, said the PDP cannot be abandoned, hence he will fully support the PDP flagbearer as promised.

But the crisis in the party is threatening to derail its bid to take over power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023 following the demand by Wike and his allies for the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to resign.

Wike and other four aggrieved PDP governors, popularly known as G-5, have also promised to unveil their preferred presidential candidate in January.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday to share the video of Wike’s promise, Melaye tasked the governor to keep his integrity intact by following through with his promise to support the winner of the PDP presidential primary.

He wrote: “Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State, promising to support anyone who wins PDP presidential primary. This integrity statement is now facing an integrity test. Mr. Governor, please honor your vow that was made before God and man because we shall all account for all vows made.
