Melaye Rubbishes Obasanjo's Endorsement Of Peter Obi

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye has rubbished the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi by former President  Olusegun Obasanjo.

Naija News reports that Obasanjo, in a New Year message titled “My Appeal to all Nigerians, particularly young Nigerians”, endorsed Obi to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The former Nigerian leader said the LP flagbearer possessed the attributes and attitudes necessary to successfully direct the affairs of Nigeria at a time like this.

Obasanjo said Obi possesses a track record of ability and performance; a vision that is authentic, honest, and realistic; character and attributes of a gentleman.

Reacting, Melaye said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, would not lose sleep over the endorsement of his former vice presidential candidate by Obasanjo.

Melaye, who is the Director of Public Affairs of the PDP Campaign Council, said Obasanjo’s open support for ObI does not reflect the opinion or position of the overwhelming majority of Nigerians across the country.

He berated the former president over his comment that Atiku is too old to provide the vigour, energy, agility, dynamism, and outreach that the job of leadership of Nigeria at the very top required.

He told The Punch, “Baba Obasanjo is talking his age. America, the most civilized democracy on earth, voted for over 70-year-old man.
