Martin Dubravka, who was on loan at Manchester United, has been called back to Newcastle United.

The Slovakian international joined Manchester United in September on a season-long loan deal with an option for an extension.

Unfortunately for the 33-year-old goalkeeper, he has only made two appearances under manager Erik ten Hag, both of which were in the Carabao Cup.

Dubravka joined Newcastle in 2018, and since then, he has made 130 appearances and recorded 37 Premier League clean sheets in all competitions.

Dubravka, like Dean Henderson who is currently keeping for Nottingham Forest, joined Manchester United in the previous season believing he would be a serious rival for David de Gea, only to discover that he would spend almost all of his time on the bench.

Although De Gea’s contract expires in the summer, there are currently questions around the entire United’s goalkeeping department, thus it is unclear whether manager Erik ten Hag would buy another goalkeeper this January.

Due to the uncertainties surrounding Dubravka at Old Trafford, Newcastle United has decided to recall the goalie and take control of the goalie’s career.

Going forward, Newcastle might decide to keep the Slovakian goalie at the club as a backup to Nick Pope or sell him in the ongoing January transfer window to raise funds.
