Luis Suarez Joins Brazil’s Club, Gremio

Brazil’s Serie A club, Gremio, announced the signing of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez on Saturday.

Luis Suarez joined the team on a free transfer with a two-year contract that runs through the end of 2024.

Suarez left his childhood club Nacional in October 2022 after three months during which he scored eight goals in 16 games and captured the Uruguayan championship.

The 35-year-old Uruguayan striker has played for Ajax Amsterdam, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. He was heavily successful in the European teams especially at FC Barcelona where he won four La Liga titles, four Copa del Rey, one Champions League, and many other titles.

While announcing his signing, Gremio described Suarez as one of the biggest players in the history of Uruguay.

The club said: “One of the biggest in Uruguay’s history, Luis Suarez is coming to continue his victorious trajectory.

“A top goal scorer, multiple champions, and a fighter. Welcome, Luisito.”

Suarez spent Christmas in Rosario, Argentina, with Lionel Messi before joining the Gremio of Porto Alegre.

After signing the deal with the Brazilian club, Luis Suarez said: “I wanted to thank you for all the love I have received. We will meet shortly.”

On January 17, 2023, Gremio will face Sao Luiz in the Recopa Gaucha Super Cup. All things being equal, the Uruguay international is expected to make his debut for the team in the game.
