Former Deputy Governor Dumps APC, Reveals Next Move

Jigawa State’s former Deputy Governor, Ahmed Mahmoud Gumel, has announced his membership withdrawal from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The APC chieftain confirmed this in a letter he addressed to the state chapter chairman of the party, Naija News reports.

Gumel, who was one of the 2023 APC gubernatorial aspirants in the state, claimed that conflict, disunity and lack of commitment was part of his reasons for withdrawing from the party.

In the letter, Gumel noted that he would be retiring to his farming business and as well continue his philanthropist gesture to the citizens of the state.

He, however, assured APC of his continued consultation with the party stakeholders for any future plans.

Gumel’s letter addressed to the APC chairman Galangamawa Ward in Gumel Local Government Area, reads:  “This letter is written with all sense of respect and regards as a chairman, your person and your party to notify you of my resignation from All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I am constraint to take this decision due to the obvious intra-party conflict, disunity and lack of commitment and confidence on the party stalwarts towards the success of the party in the forthcoming general elections.

“By this decision, I will retire to my farming business and equally continue my philantropist gesture to the people of Jigawa State. I assure you of my continue consultations with stakeholders for any future plan.

“I wish you and all party members well in all your present and future engagements. Please accept my warm regards.”

Naija News understands that Gumel served as commissioner of finance during the administration of former Governor Ibrahim Saminu Turaki.

He also served as Deputy Governor under former Governor Sule Lamido on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He later dumped the PDP a few months before the 2015 general elections for APC.
