BREAKING: Wike, G-5 Governors Return To Nigeria, Speaks On PDP Chairmanship Position

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairmanship position must come to the Southern part of the country.

Naija News reports that the PDP national chairmanship position is currently occupied by Iyorchia Ayu, who hails from Benue State, in the North Central geopolitical zone of the country.

Wike, however, insisted on Friday during the commissioning of a project in his state that a Southerner must occupy Ayu’s position.

Wike and other aggrieved governors of the popularly known as the G-5 arrived in Port Harcourt on Friday after their trip to London.

G-5, made up of Governor Wike, Seyi Makinde (Oyo) Samuel Ortom (Benue) State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), departed Nigeria last Wednesday for the United Kingdom.

The governors have been at loggerheads with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, following the refusal of Ayu to step down as the PDP national chairman for a southerner.

Wike has insisted that he and his team were only saying that the party’s constitution should be respected based on what the national chairman said and what he was assured of earlier.

2023: Amaechi Speaks On Joining PDP, Opens Up On APC Muslim-Muslim Ticket

Meanwhile, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has responded to reports that he is set to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition PDP.

The former Rivers State Governor also reacted to claims that he does not support the APC Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket because it contradicts his belief as a devout catholic.

Naija News understands a former Senior Special Adviser to former Vice President Namadi Sambo on Media, and Publicity, Umar Sani, had claimed Amaechi is on his way to the PDP.

He also said that Amaechi would not support the Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima ticket of the APC because it’s a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The former aide was quoted to have made the submission on a Twitter programme, HardTalk.

“I’m glad to tell you that in Rivers state, PDP has gotten Amaechi because he (Amaechi) said he is a Catholic and will not support Muslim-Muslim ticket. He is going to support PDP.

“So if there is somebody who can match Wike madness for madness, boxing for boxing, it’s Amaechi” Sani was quoted to have said.

However, when contacted by DAILY INDEPENDENT, Amaechi denied the claims made by the former vice presidential media aide, describing them as total lies.

“He is lying. There was never any time I said anything like that”, the former Transport Minister said.
