There was jubilations in Akwa Ibom State on Thursday, December 29, after the Young Democratic Party (YPP) governorship candidate in the state, Senator Albert Bassey Akpan, returned from prison.

While reacting to the development, the excited wife of the politician, Imaobong Albert, said that despite all odds, her husband would ensure the welfare and well-being of all Akwa Ibomites if elected as the next governor of the state.

According to her, Akwa Ibom belongs to them all and people have the right to choose who they want to govern them come 2023.

Naija News understands that a mammoth crowd took to the street of Uyo on Thursday to receive Akpan, who was just released from prison.

Akpan Sentenced To 42 Years Imprisonment For Corruption

It could be recalled that on December 1, 2022, an Uyo Federal High Court, led by Justice Agatha Okeke, sentenced the Senator to 42 years imprisonment over alleged corruption.

Akpan was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for receiving exotic cars worth N204m from a contractor of the Akwa Ibom State Government, Jide Omokare.

The embattled Senator, however, regained freedom on Wednesday following a Port Harcourt Court of Appeal ruling.

Naija News understands that the court situated in the Rivers State capital, on Wednesday granted bail to the Uyo Senatorial District Senator on health grounds pending the determination of an appeal.

While welcoming Akpan alongside his teeming supporters, his running mate, AIG Asuquo Amba Rtd, said his freedom is a prayer answered.

On his part, the chairman of the campaign council, Sir Emem Akpabio, and the YPP Director General in the state, Pastor Sunny Ibuot, urged the people to ensure the manifestation of God’s will by voting for OBA on Election Day.
