On Thursday, December 29, 2022, President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Kogi State to commission some projects by Gov Yahaya Bello.

Naija News understands that Buhari’s visit to the North Central state is his first since he became president in 2015.

Buhari’s visit to Kogi came amid reports that a bomb explosion killed three people on Thursday morning.

Reports had it that the bomb exploded in the Okene area of the state on Thursday morning. It was learnt that the incident happened at the Oyinoyi’s Palace in the Okenne Local Government Area of the state.

However, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, has deleted some tweets in which he claimed the explosion witnessed in the state on Thursday morning was merely transformer sparks.

The commissioner had in an immediate reaction to the explosion, taken to the micro-blogging site earlier to say no explosion occurred and the spark injured only one person.

But in a series of tweets, the commissioner described reports of the explosion as a blatant lie.

He said it was a “mere transformer spark which injured one person”.

“Contrary to the blatant lie that there was a bomb explosion that killed three people in Okene, I wish to debunk the falsehood here.

“It was a mere transformer spark which injured one person. Mr President is currently enjoying the hospitality of our people right there at Okene where he is commissioning life-touching projects, executed by Governor Yahaya Bello.

“Our people should ignore the rumour and savour the presence of our dear President. We are Kogi people. We are hospitable,” Fanwo wrote in now-deleted tweets.

Buahri’s Visit Best Thing Since Governor Bello Assume Office

Meanwhile, residents of Kogi State have described Buhari’s visit today as the best thing that has happened to Kogi since Bello assumed office as Governor on Jan 27, 2016.

Eunice Idoko, a retired teacher who spoke with reporters about the president’s visit said: “This is the first time President Muhammadu Buhari is visiting Kogi since he became our leader.

“We, the residents of Kogi, are very grateful to the president for appreciating and considering what our governor is doing in terms of infrastructure development.”

On his part, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Karimi, said Buhari’s visit was in fulfilment of what was long overdue and expected by Nigerians.

Karimi said that he and other residents of Kogi were very satisfied that the president had successfully commissioned the legacy projects of Gov. Bello.
