The Osun State Government has revealed that the state couldn’t carry out the usual free train service for holidaymakers in this festive season due to the “teething problems associated with a new government”.

In 2022, the Osun state government did not offer a free train service for those traveling to Osun from Lagos and Ogun to spend Christmas and New Year for the first time since 2011.

Recall that former governor Rauf Aregbesola initiated the free train service, and continued it throughout his tenure. His successor, Adegboyega Oyetola, who assumed office in 2018, also carried out the free train service throughout his four-year tenure.

Even though the program didn’t continue in 2022, the new administration of Senator Ademola Adeleke has stressed that the eleven years old program has not been cancelled.

Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, said the government was unable to provide the service this festive season due to some difficulties it encountered in the planning and execution of the initiative.

The governor’s spokesperson said, “You will recall that his Excellency (Senator Ademola Adeleke) promised to continue any good initiative of the previous government.

“The circumstances of the assumption of office, however, created little hiccups in planning and execution. As a result, the free ride is not cancelled.

“The challenges are the teething problems associated with a new government just settling down.”
