Premier League: Southampton, Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Everton, And Aston Villa Suffer Defeats

The boxing day return of the Premier League after the World Cup break spelled doom for Southampton, Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Everton, and Aston Villa who all ended the day with defeats.

Southampton hosted Brighton at St. Mary’s Stadium. After 90 minutes of an intense Premier League game, the visitors ran away with a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Lallana, Perraud, and March.

As for Leicester City, the relegation-threatened team suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of their visitors Newcastle United thanks to goals from Wood, Almirón, and Joelinton.

In the same vein, Crystal Palace hosted Fulham only to suffer a 0-3 defeat. Palace was exposed after two of their players, Mitchell (34th minute) and Tomkins (57) received red cards. Hence, the host stood no chance in the game.

Also, Everton hosted Wolves on Boxing Day and ended up as bad hosts as they fell 1-2 to their visitors thanks to goals from Podence and Aït-Nouri in the 22nd and 90th minutes respectively.

Afterward, Liverpool visited Villa Park to take on Aston Villa. Jurgen Klopp and his boys ran away with a 1-3 victory thanks to goals from Salah (5th minute), Van Dijk (37th minute), and Bajcetic (81st minute).

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Brentford hosted Tottenham Hotspur to open the Boxing Day Premier League fixtures. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.
