The Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, has revealed that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, is likely to announce a new campaign Director-General to replace embattled Doyin Okupe before the week ends.

Naija News reports that Okupe resigned from the position on Tuesday, following a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that convicted him of violating the money laundering Act.

In a letter personally addressed to Obi, Okupe noted that he is still in full support of his presidential ambition despite all odds.

Speaking on Okupe’s replacement as the party proceeds with its campaign rally across states, Tanko told The PUNCH today that the new DG would be announced within the next 48 hours.

He, however, noted that the choice of a new campaign DG is a collective decision and not an individual preference as alleged in some quarters.

Tanko said a meeting is ongoing and decisions are being taken at the highest level of the campaign council.

“Even as of this morning, there were discussions,” he said.

The party chieftain added: “Don’t forget that we are on a campaign train. That, of course, hampered the quick decision that we should be taking.

“Be that as it may, between now and this weekend, we will have a pronouncement made in that regard. We need to make good consultations. It is not the decision of one person.

“As earlier said, this movement is not about one person. It is a collective responsibility movement – North, West, East and South including the local and international areas. Therefore, deep discussions must be made to get a replacement that Nigerians will be happy about.”

Okupe’s Possible Replacement Speaks As Embattled LP DG Announces Resignation

There is an urgent need for the Labour Party to name another person as its 2023 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Director-General following Okupe’s resignation from the position.

Naija News reports that Okupe resigned following his alleged involvement in money laundering to the tune of over N200 million by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The court said Okupe received the money from National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki. Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu submitted that Okupe’s action was in violation of the Money Laundering Act.

One of the potential replacements for Okupe as Obi’s campaign DG is the National deputy campaign manager of the Obi-Datti movement, David Isaac Balami.

However, Balami on Tuesday asked Nigerians to disregard any speculation of him taking the position after Okupe.

According to him, the reports making the rounds, especially on social media, of him replacing Doyin Okupe are nothing but fake.
