The move to change the name of the service will depend on whether the proposed amendment to the Finance Act which is before the National Assembly sails through.

According to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, the chief executive would be referred to as Commissioner-General and not Chairman.

Ahmed disclosed this while addressing the Senate Committee on Finance.

Other provisions are the reorganisation of the FIRS Board by separating the executive management.
