The Bank of England has unveiled its first banknotes featuring King Charles III.

Naija News reports that this comes after the death of Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022.

The new £5, £10, £20, and £50 polymer banknotes feature a portrait of Charles on the front, as well as a cameo of him in a see-through security window.

The notes are expected to enter circulation in mid-2024, gradually replacing those featuring Queen Elizabeth, who began appearing on paper money in 1960.

According to Sky News, there are currently 27 billion coins in circulation carrying the Queen’s face, which will be replaced over time as they become worn.

Merry Christmas Card Came Early From King Charles

Thirteen days before the 2022 Christmas day celebration, United Kingdom’s King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort, have put forward their wishes to the world.

Britain’s reigning King and Queen had a photograph reportedly taken at a Highland Gathering in Scotland for their Christmas card gift for the year.

Recall that upon the demise of Queen Elizabeth, his mother, on September 8th, 2022, Charles, formerly known as Prince Charles, became king of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

A few days, however, before the celebration of Christmas in commemoration of Jesus Christ’s birth, Buckingham Palace released the picture selected for the couple’s first Christmas card.

The photograph, reportedly taken by award-winning photographer, Sam Hussein, shows Charles and Camilla smiling at the Braemar Royal Highland Gathering in September.

It was reported that the photo on the card was taken on Sept. 3, a few days before the queen’s death, while Charles was still the Prince of Wales.
