The Director-General of the Labour party presidential campaign council, Doyin Okupe has stepped down from his position following the ruling of the Federal High Court Abuja on Monday sentencing him to jail.

Naija News reports that Okupe, right-hand man to the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was sentenced to a two-year jail term after he was found guilty of money laundering but given the option of paying a fine which he did.

Okupe was earlier convicted by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu who considered a money laundering case brought before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on alleged money laundering and criminal breach of trust to the tune of N702 million valid.

Taking to his Twitter handle on Tuesday, Doyin shared a copy of his resignation letter written to the presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi.
