Reports in England claimed that David de Gea’s contract at Manchester United has not been affected by this decision, as the club and the Spanish goalkeeper are currently in productive negotiations on a potential new contract.

Manchester United are searching for forwards in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit and as the January transfer window draws near, but there is a sizable possibility that they won’t make any acquisitions this winter.

However, the Red Devils have shown interest in a few attacking players, including PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo, who was a target during last summer.

Recall that before the Netherlands were eliminated on penalties by Argentina in the World CupWorld Cup quarterfinals, Gakpo made an impression by scoring three goals for the Dutch team in Qatar.

Manchester United reportedly have reservations about possible targets in January due to the inflated estimates of players, especially following the just concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Note that PSV director of football Marcel Brands had said that any agreement for Gakpo, 23, “must be a record move”.

Hence, Rashford’s continued presence, at least in the near term, will be crucial to United’s attempt to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

The English player, who has been linked to Paris St. Germain, is the league leader in goals for United this season with eight in all competitions. He contributed three goals as well, helping his country reach the World Cup quarterfinals in Qatar.

After struggling in the previous season, Erik ten Hag seems to have gotten the best out of the attacker, maybe providing the Englishman a reason to stay at the club.

On December 27, when they host Nottingham Forest, Rashford and the rest of United will resume their Premier League campaign.

However, on Wednesday, they have a Carabao Cup fourth-round match against Burnley. The match is scheduled to kick off at 20:00.
