Economic Saboteurs Ran Nigerian Economy Aground - Sowore

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore has mocked the Director-General of the Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign council, Doyin Okupe over his conviction on Monday by the High Court for money laundering charges.

Sowore in a post via his Twitter account labelled Okupe as a money launderer following his conviction by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu.

He also called out the likes of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida describing them as corrupt godfathers.

Not done, the AAC candidate also described Gen. John Enenche as a massacre defender while concluding his statement with an unnamed candidate whom he described as a SARS supporter.

He said he is glad such people are not part of his own party.

He wrote: “We’re glad to restate again that we are different, that we do not have money launderers in our midst
@doyinokupe that we don’t have a massacre defender, Gen. Enenche (RTD), we don’t have corrupt godfathers-Obasanjo & Babangida. And a candidate who’s provided support for SARS.”

It would be recalled that Okupe was on Monday, sentenced to a two-year jail term for the offence of money laundering.

He was convicted on Monday by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The judge gave the ruling as it relates to a money laundering case brought before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on alleged money laundering and criminal breach of trust to the tune of N702 million.

Okupe was was found guilty of collecting cash payments in excess of the threshold allowed under sections 16(1)&(2) of the Money Laundering Act, without going through a financial institution.

According to the judge, the embattled Labour Party DG was reported to have received hundreds of millions in cash from the office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki while he was in office.

He was however given the option of paying the fine of N500,000 each on the 26 counts for which he was found guilty, totalling N13,000,000.

He Has Paid The Fine

The Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) says Okupe has paid the sum of N13m fine following the court’s verdict.

The PCC Media Officer, Diran Onifade, confirmed this on Monday evening while speaking ahead of the party’s rally in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
