The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore, has paid a courtesy visit to the embattled leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

The presidential hopeful revealed this via his social media pages sharing photos of their meeting at the latter’s Abuja residence, on Sunday.

Sowore noted in his caption that he was able to have a look at photos of El-Zakzaky’s followers who were killed under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

While describing the meeting as an amazing one, Sowore said he also saw the models of El-Zakzaky properties destroyed when soldiers on the order of the president stormed his apartments in 2015.

“I visited Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his family at home in Abuja yesterday (Sunday). It was an amazing meeting. Later inspected the models of his properties destroyed by the @MBuhari regime plus the heartbreaking photos of his six boys murdered between the Muhammadu Buhari regime and that of Goodluck Jonathan. Also spoke with his wife who was badly injured during the #ZariaMassacre in 2015,” Sowore wrote on Twitter today.

Naija News reports that Sowore’s visit to the Islamic cleric was coming days after the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) debunked the rumours making the rounds in some quarters that El-Zakzaky is dead.

Some reports online, according to IHRC, have alleged that the Shiite leader passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022.

The International Islamic organization, however, in a statement last week faulted the reports, urging the Muslim community and Nigerians at large to disregard the rumours of El-Zakzaky’s death.

IHRC maintained that the embattled cleric is alive.

“The Anniversary of the 2015 #ZariaMassacre is today. We will be posting more during this week.

“Please disregard rumours circulating this morning that Sheikh El-Zakzaky has passed away,” IHRC noted on its Twitter handle.
