Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has taken to Twitter to react to an Abuja Federal High Court verdict on Monday that convicted the Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the Labour Party (LP), Doyin Okupe, of alleged money laundering.

Naija News reports that the High Court judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, during a session today, found Okupe guilty of contravening sections 16(1)&(2) of the Money Laundering Act.

She said the politician was guilty of collecting cash payments in excess of the threshold allowed under the Act without going through a financial institution.

Reacting to the development, Omokri, a staunch supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, took to the microblogging platform and made a mockery of Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi and the embattled Okupe.

He wrote: “Look at their faces. Anini and Monday Osunbor.”

As expected, Obi’s supporters have reacted to the post with different comments, calling Omokri unprintable names.

Meanwhile, the  Wife and son of Okupe were said to have begged the Federal High Court on Monday to tamper justice with mercy on the politician’s sentencing.

Naija News understands that Omolola and Adesunkanmi Okupe spoke as witnesses shortly after the court reconvened following the defendant’s conviction.

It was said that the wife and the son testified to Okupe’s good character and honesty before the court, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife and former Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Idi Farouk, giving their evidence and appealed for leniency.

Justice Ojukwu, however, did not attend to their plea as she maintained that Okupe received N240 million in cash from the office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retired) and is guilty of the charges against him.
