Boko Haram: NYSC Reopens Borno Camp After 13 Years

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has informed corp members that if they are caught snatching ballot boxes during the 2023 elections they would be sent to jail.

The Acting Director-General of the NYSC, Christy Uba, warned the corp members they would face the law as stipulated in the 2022 Electoral Act if they are involved in any election malpractice.

The acting DG gave the warning during the working visit to the temporary Orientation Camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

She urged the corp members to remain neutral during the election while also adding that it is not mandatory to participate in the election.

According to her, “If you must participate in the electoral process, you are encouraged to remain neutral and apolitical. Do not involve yourself in politics; you are corps members and you have a duty to your country; you have to be careful.

“If you fall foul of the law, you will be treated as any other Nigerian. There is no cover for corps members; when you carry a ballot box for anybody; you will go straight to prison.”

Uba also stated that those who have indicated interest in the voting exercise would be given a training by the electoral body.

She subsequently advised corp members interested in the 2023 elections to go through the training to get the required knowledge to conduct the exercise successfully.
