PDP, NNPP, Labour Party Members Defect To APC In Sokoto

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has received a boost ahead of the 2023 general elections as more citizens join the party from different opposition camps.

A statement from the party on Friday claimed that it received new defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) today.

The politicians, according to APC, came from Gwadabawa, Illela, and Goronyo Local Government Areas in the eastern zone of the state.

Bashar Abubakar, who is the Special Assistant to Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North), the APC leader in the state, confirmed to newsmen that the defectors include former councillors and various stakeholders from the eastern zone of the state.

“They were all received at their local governments by the governorship candidate of the party, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, and his running mate, Alhaji Idris Gobir,” he said.

The development, he said was an indication that the APC is matching to victory in the forthcoming polls.

‘You Conducted The Worst Election In Nigeria’s History’ – Keyamo Fires PDP

Meanwhile, APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has in a statement slammed PDP for claiming to be responsible for deepening democracy in the country.

Naija News earlier reported that the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation (PCO) had claimed responsibility for sustaining democracy in the country during its 16 years in power.

The PDP PCO stated this on Thursday following US President Joe Biden’s commendation of President Muhammadu Buhari for deepening democracy in the country and in Africa.

In a swift response, the Chief Spokesman of the APC PCC, Festus Keyamo, said the PDP should not take the glory for deepening democracy in the country, adding that the party conducted the worst election in the history of Nigeria.

Keyamo said the US President commended President Buhari and not the PDP, adding that the opposition party is attempting to adulterate Biden’s speech and seek relevance.

In a chat with The Punch, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment added that opposition is always attempting to seek attention even when it wasn’t necessary.

He said, “What we know is that Biden congratulated Buhari, not the PDP. We are taking the statement from Biden literally as of today. The PDP is just attempting to adulterate what the US President said and that is what we are sticking to.

“We all know that the worst election in the history of Nigeria was conducted under the PDP. Jonathan didn’t do anything extraordinary. He was defeated and left power. So what legacy are they talking about?”.
