10 Clubs That Rule The Football World

Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has selected Morocco to host the 2023 Club World Cup scheduled for February.

Naija News gathered that the expanded 32-team edition will be launched in 2025.

The announcement was made by FIFA President, Gianni Infantino on Friday.

Infantino while addressing newsmen at a press conference in Doha on Friday said the tournament will take place from February 1 to 11, 2023.

In the traditional seven-team tournament, European champion, Real Madrid, South American champion, Flamengo and Seattle Sounders, the first CONCACAF Champions League winner from the United States, will play.

Morocco which surprised the world at the 2022 Qatar World Cup and lost in the semi-finals to the Argentine side will now host the next global soccer event.

It will be one of the last seven-team editions for continental champions with an expanded, month-long tournament planned to start in 2025.

According to Infantino, the tournament was expanded to make it like a World Cup.

He said, “We had agreed a few years ago to have a new 24-team men’s Club World Cup. It should have taken place in 2021 but was postponed because of Covid.”

Morocco hosted the Club World Cup in 2013 and again in 2014, while the most recent edition was held in the United Arab Emirates in February, with Chelsea lifting the trophy.
