Reno Omokri Hits APC Campaign Over ‘Attack’ On ThisDay/Arise News
Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri has slammed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) over its verbal attack on THISDAY newspaper and Arise Television.
Naija News reports that THISDay media group had accused the APC campaign of demanding the removal of Shaka Momodu, THISDAY editor, and Rufai Oseni, The Morning Show co-host, from their current positions.
In a publication on Monday, the media group said the APC campaign accused it of blackmail and attempting to bully and silence independent media as the general elections approach.
Reacting in a statement on Monday night, the Directorate of the Media and Publicity of the APC Campaign berated the media group for accusing its leadership of trying to silence free and fair journalism.
In the statement issued by Bayo Onanuga and Dele Alake, the APC campaign said the accusation of attempting to bully the media is “baseless and stupid”.
But in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Monday, Omokri accused the ruling party of attempting to silence the media group and bully its staff.
The former presidential aide said the action of the APC campaign is proof that the APC flagbearer, Bola Tinubu, would stifle press freedom.
He wrote: “Why are Bola Tinubu’s people trying to bully @THISDAYLIVE into silence? Is this the type of Nigeria they want? No wonder Tinubu said he would continue from where Buhari stopped. Now, we understand what he meant.”
