Twitter Reveals Final Date For Removal Of Free Verification Badge

The official Twitter account announced it on Saturday: the return of Twitter Blue. Elon Musk’s new paid subscription had been suspended, following too many impersonations caused by getting the blue tick.

Twitter has therefore revised its process and offers a new account verification system and new badges.

Here are Five New Changes On Twitter

1. Check again to get the blue tick

To avoid abuse, Twitter has indicated that Twitter Blue subscribers will get the blue tick provided their number is verified first (which was not the case in the previous launch). Subscribers will also benefit from other features, such as: the option to edit published tweets, and download videos in 1080p and reader mode (to better read threads). As a reminder, Twitter Blue is only available in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

2. Restrictions on name and photo changes

Twitter explains that Twitter Blue subscribers can modify their identifier, display name or profile photo, but this will result in them losing their blue badge temporarily: “ If they do, they will temporarily lose the blue tick until their account is reviewed.

3. Gold and grey badges for some accounts

Twitter also hinted at the new badges expected to see the light of day on the platform. Here’s what’s changing: Businesses will now receive a gold badge, and accounts linked to government authorities will receive a grey badge. The objective is to distinguish the different types of accounts clearly.

4. A different price on iOS and the web version

Another major change: the price of the Twitter Blue subscription is raised to $11 per month if users subscribe through the App Store. Elon Musk’s goal: offset the 30% tax imposed by Apple on in-app purchases. However, users who subscribe to Twitter Blue will only pay $8 per month through the web version.

As a reminder, Elon Musk attacked Apple at the end of November concerning several subjects, including the 30% commission from Apple and the potential withdrawal of Twitter from the App Store. Following this affront, the billionaire met Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, to discuss the issues raised.

5. Long tweets up to 4,000 characters?

Rumours are still swirling about longer tweets. Currently, it is possible to post tweets of up to 280 characters. But this weekend, a user asked Elon Musk if it was true that Twitter would increase the character count to 4,000 characters. The billionaire replied to the tweet simply with: “Yes” as you can see in the tweet below. We have few details on when this change will be rolled out, including whether or not long-form tweets will be restricted to Twitter Blue subscribers, but it is quite possible. Case to follow!
