APC Lawmakers Dump Party For NNPP In Gombe

Two chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have withdrawn their membership and declared allegiance to the opposition New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in Gombe State.

The politicians who are serving members of the Gombe State House of Assembly announced their defection on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

Hamza Adamu representing Balanga South, and Bappah Usman Jurara, representing Funakaye South, made their decisions known today after a meeting with the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, Naija News reports.

The lawmakers dumped APC hours the flag off of the party’s 2023 election campaign by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.

Attending to journalists on Saturday after their decamping, the lawmakers said they joined NNPP in the state’s best interest, adding that both APC and PDP lack the requisite leadership qualities to unite and develop the state.

Naija News understands that the lawmaker’s defection has made the NNPP a second major opposition in the state, as they now have serving members as legislators in the state house of assembly.

APC More Organized, Says PDP Chieftain As He Dumps Opposition Camp In Gombe

Meanwhile, the Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday lost a chieftain to the APC with thousands of his supporters.

The politician, Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, declared yesterday that the APC is more organized and hence would not tie himself to a poorly managed camp (referring to the PDP).

Naija News reports that the Sardauna of Gombe announced his defection yesterday while interacting with reporters alongside thousand of his supporters.

Gwamna lamented the leadership of the PDP in the state, noting that they have disregarded the rule of law within the party and has promoted disunity at all level.

He stressed that the party leadership in the state had poorly managed the affairs of the party, which led to different factions in the party.

Gwamna, who said his political ideology was anchored on unity, inclusiveness, fairness and justice, said, “if those are not found in the party, then there is no reason to be in that camp.”

According to him, the nation’s opposition party cannot manage Gombe State with the crop of leadership it has that prioritises personal interest against collective interest.
