Two Russian air bases located in the center of the country were targeted by Ukrainian drones, which killed three people, according to a press release from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

kyiv forces carried out a drone attack on December 5 against the Russian air bases of Diagilevo in the Ryazan region and that of Engels in the Saratov region, located in the center of the country, the ministry of security said Defense in a press release.

Russian air defence intercepted the low-flying Ukrainian drones, but the ministry said three servicemen “were fatally injured” as debris from the drones fell and exploded. Four other soldiers were injured, and the fuselage of two planes was slightly damaged.

The Russian Ministry of Defense assures that the attack did not disrupt the combat operations of the Russian long-range air force, a massive strike having been carried out around 3 p.m. on communication, energy and military centers of Ukraine. “All 17 assigned objects were hit. Following the strike, the rail transfer of Ukrainian Armed Forces reserves, foreign weapons, military equipment and ammunition to combat areas was halted,” the statement concluded.

The Russian navy had already been the target of attacks by Ukrainian drones in Sevastopol in Crimea at the end of October, but the attack of this December 5 is located further in Russian lands. Diaguilevo airfield is situated more than 500 km from Ukraine, while Engels is about 700 km away.
