Wike Slams Agba For Blaming Governors For High Poverty Rate [Video]

Governor Nyesom Wike has slammed the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Clement Agba, for blaming state governors for the high rate of poverty in the country.

Naija News earlier reported that the minister had accused governors of being responsible for the increase in poverty in the country, following the recently released MultiDimensional Poverty report.

Agba made the accusation this while briefing State House correspondents on Wednesday in Abuja on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The minister accused state governors of constructing flyovers and airports and failing to construct roads linking the rural areas to the urban centers

He said the governors have abandoned the 72 percent of poor citizens living in the rural areas and focusing on the state capital and citizens living in urban centers.

Speaking at the inauguration of Rumuogho link roads in Emohua community on Thursday, Wike said the minister was wrong to have accused the governors of abandoning the rural areas and constructing infrastructure in the state capital.

Governor Wike accused Agba of being ignorant and cautioned the minister against making such a reckless statement in the future.

He, therefore, advised Agba to come to Rivers state and see rural roads being constructed which would help the farmers bring their produce to the urban areas.
