I am Fearful About The Outcome Of 2023 Election – Former INEC Chairman, Jega

A former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has expressed his concerns over the political environment in Nigeria as the 2023 elections draw closer.

Jega revealed that he has palpable fears about the outcome of the general elections.

He stated this while speaking at a colloquium organized by the Electoral Hub in Abuja on Wednesday.

He however opined that Nigeria will pull through the current challenges.

According to him, “I have a lot of fears about the outcome of the election. But you will see people like me are what I’ll call an incurable optimist about the future of our country.

“So I remain hopeful that in spite of the recklessness that we see, the vandalism that we see perpetrated by many of our so-called leading politicians, we are hopeful that people will mobilise and become effectively engaged in the electoral process, so that we have a good outcome in 2023.” 

Tinubu Coherent With His Campaign Promises

The Deputy Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Adams Oshiomhole, says the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has promised to execute his campaign promises in an organized way.

Speaking during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, the former governor of Edo State said Tinubu made his campaign promises in a very coherent manner.

Oshiomhole said the achievements of the party’s flagbearer in Lagos are there for all Nigerians to see, saying that Tinubu has the capacity to take difficult decisions.

The former APC National Chairman said Tinubu believes that Nigeria should be restructured and that he demonstrated it through the creation of extra local government councils in Lagos when he was governor.

He said: “Tinubu has promised what he is going to do in a very coherent manner. Look at what he (Tinubu) did in Lagos.

“The real issue in Nigeria is mobilizing resources and look at how he mobilized resources from a state that was earning N600m IGR (internally generated revenue) to what it is earning now in a month. So, he has the capacity to take difficult decisions.”
